Geely Tugella is a front- or all-wheel drive "premium" (at least that's what the Chinese company thinks) a mid-size coupe-crossover, which is not only the first Geely car of this form factor, but also the "first-born" of the brand on a modular platform CMA.

The main target audience of the five-door is ambitious and energetic city dwellers who want to get a “stylish and practical car”, but are not ready to sacrifice “driving pleasure” ...

The public premiere of the Geely coupe-crossover under the internal index FY11 took place in March 2019 in China, but the car was declassified at the end of January of the same year. The next month after the official debut, the SUV went on sale in the Chinese market as Xingyue ... and in August 2020 it became known that the car will appear in Russia, but under the export name Tugella (in honor of one of the largest waterfalls on the planet, located in South Africa).

Outside, Geely Tugella boasts a beautiful, modern, catchy and balanced design, and it's hard to argue with this - an assertive front end with frowning LED headlights, a narrow multifaceted radiator grille and a "fanged" bumper, a dynamic and proportional silhouette with expressive sides, a sloping roof line and a small "branch" of the trunk, powerful stern with stylish lanterns, a raised bumper and two "curly" exhaust pipes.

Size and weight

"Tugella" belongs to the class of mid-size crossovers: the car is 4605 mm long, of which the center distance extends to 2700 mm, and its width and height are 1878 mm and 1643 mm, respectively.

When equipped, a coupe-SUV weighs from 1745 to 1815 kg, depending on the modification.

Interior

Inside, the Geely Tugella looks fresh, attractive, very solid and solid in a European way, with a certain claim to premium status.

The number of physical keys is kept to a minimum, and the focus is on two 12.3-inch displays, one for the dashboard and the other (with touch controls) for infotainment. The three-spoke multi-steering wheel with a "chubby" rim truncated at the bottom and an unpretentious air conditioner control unit harmoniously fit into the interior design. In addition, the coupe-like crossover "flaunts" well-thought-out ergonomics and exceptionally high-quality finishing materials.

In the front part of the Tugella's cabin there are well-profiled seats with good lateral support, a lot of adjustments and heating.

On the second row there is a comfortable sofa, visually molded for two, a normal supply of free space and a minimum of additional amenities, such as a central armrest with cup holders, heating, etc.

The trunk of a mid-size crossover is small - its volume in its usual form is only 326 liters, but the compartment itself has an ideal shape with smooth walls. "Gallery" folds flush with the floor in two uneven parts, due to which the capacity of the cargo compartment increases to 1077 liters. In a niche under the raised floor there is a spare wheel and a set of tools.

Specifications

In the Russian market for Geely Tugella, one gasoline engine is announced - a 2.0-liter inline-four with a turbocharger, electronically controlled distributed fuel injection, variable valve timing and a 16-valve DOHC timing belt, which is available in two boost levels:

  • 200 horsepower at 4500 rpm and 350 Nm of torque at 1800-4000 rpm;
  • 238 h.p. at 5500 rpm and 350 Nm of peak thrust at 1800-4500 rpm.

By default, the car is equipped with an uncontested 8-band hydromechanical "automatic" Aisin, but the type of drive depends on the version: so the 200-horsepower version is offered only with all-wheel drive, and the 238-horsepower - with both front and all-wheel drive. As for the all-wheel drive system, the fifth generation BorgWarner multi-plate clutch with electrohydraulic control is responsible for transmitting traction to the rear wheels, which is able to distribute the engine potential in equal shares between the axles.

Design features

At the heart of the Geely Tugella is the CMA (Compact Modular Architecture) modular architecture, created jointly by Geely and Volvo, which implies a transverse engine and an all-metal monocoque body made of high-strength steel.

The car boasts independent front and rear suspensions with passive shock absorbers and lateral stabilizers: in the first case, these are the classic MacPherson struts, and in the second, a multi-link system.

The crossover coupe has a rack and pinion steering system and an active electric power steering. "In a circle" the car is equipped with disc brakes (on the front axle - with ventilation) in combination with various electronic assistants.

Options and prices

Geely Tugella was brought to the Russian market at the very end of 2020 and exclusively in an all-wheel drive version with a 238-horsepower engine in one configuration called Flagship, for which dealers ask for a minimum of 2,499,990 rubles.

The basic equipment of the coupe-like crossover includes: six airbags, 20-inch alloy wheels, leather trim, heated steering wheel and all seats, dual-zone climate control, all-LED optics, panoramic roof, electric drive and ventilation of the front seats, virtual instrument cluster, media system 12.3-inch screen, adaptive cruise control, all-round cameras, fifth door servo, eight speaker audio system, blind spot monitoring and more.
