The Borgward BX7 is a premium all-wheel drive mid-size crossover (at least that's how the automaker positions it), which “flaunts”: stylish design, high-quality interior, modern technical components and fairly rich equipment ... It is addressed to people living in urban traits that prefer outdoor activities ...

The car, which became the first model in the history of the revived Borgward brand, officially debuted in October 2015 at an international show in Frankfurt, and went on sale in the Chinese market in July 2016.

Developed with the active participation of Foton, this mid-size SUV is mass-produced at the Beijing plant.

From the outside, the Borgward BX7 looks attractive, catchy and slightly out of proportion, and on top of that it surprises with a combination of chic and cheap materials. The front of the five-door flaunts "complex" headlights, a monumental "shield" of the radiator grille and a raised bumper, and at the back it boasts stylish lanterns and a "puffy" bumper with two oval exhaust pipes.

In profile, the crossover looks like an Audi Q5 - it demonstrates an athletic look with a smoothly sloping roofline, expressive sidewalls and "muscular" wheel arches that can accommodate 18-inch light-alloy "rollers".

In length, the Borgward BX7 extends to 4715 mm, of which 2760 mm falls on the center distance, reaches 1911 mm in width and 1690 mm in height. The ground clearance of the off-road vehicle is 190 mm, and its curb weight is at least 1740 kg.

Inside, the German-Chinese SUV attracts attention with a presentable front panel, in the center of which, under a deep visor, flaunts a 12.3-inch screen of the infotainment complex.

Slightly below it on the dashboard are thoughtful control units for "music" and "microclimate", and at the driver's workplace there is a large three-spoke multi-steering wheel and an analog instrument cluster with a color "display" of the trip computer.

In addition to this, the decoration of the car pleasantly surprises with high-quality finishing materials - high-quality plastics, quilted leather in different shades, wooden inserts and aluminum.

Salon Borgward BX7 can have a five-, six- or seven-seat layout. For the front riders, comfortable chairs with moderately developed sidewalls and a wide range of adjustments are reserved, while either a full-fledged three-seater sofa or two individual "thrones" are installed on the second row.

In addition, a "gallery" is available as an option for the car, but it is suitable for accommodating only children.

And in the luggage compartment, with a three-row layout of the cabin, it will fit, perhaps only "a couple of bags from the store."

With "five passengers", this crossover can take on board at least 545 liters of luggage.

The second row of seats folds down in two parts in a 60:40 ratio, increasing the cargo space to 1,377 liters.

Tools and a small spare wheel are stored in a niche under the raised floor near the five-door.

The Borgward BX7 is powered by a 2.0-liter aluminum petrol four-cylinder in-line, direct-fed, turbocharged, intercooler, variable valve timing technology and an exhaust gas recirculation system that produces 224 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 300 N · M of torque at 1500-4500 rpm.

Together with it, a 6-speed "automatic" and an all-wheel drive transmission with a multi-plate clutch are installed, which, if necessary, transfers up to half of the traction reserve to the rear wheels, and an electronically controlled limited slip differential in the rear axle.

Acceleration from zero to the first "hundred" takes less than 10 seconds for an off-road vehicle, its maximum speed is 206 km / h, and fuel consumption does not exceed 8.5 liters per 100 km (in combined driving conditions).

The Borgward BX7 is based on a front-wheel-drive architecture, and its body is distinguished by a wide proportion of high-strength grades of steel in the structure.

"In a circle" the car is equipped with independent suspensions with gas-filled shock absorbers and coil springs: in the front - a MacPherson-type system with an anti-roll bar, in the rear - a multi-link configuration.
The front and rear wheels of the crossover are equipped with disc brakes (in the first case, ventilated), supplemented by ABS, EBD and other modern electronics. In the arsenal of the five-door there is a rack and pinion steering complex, into which an electromechanical control amplifier is "implanted".

In Russia, the appearance of Borgward BX7 is expected in early 2018, but in the Middle Kingdom it can already be purchased at a price of 169,800 yuan (~ 1.5 million rubles).

  • The standard mid-size SUV is equipped with: six airbags, 17-inch wheels, multimedia system, ABS, EBD, ESP, front and rear parking sensors, "music" with seven speakers, air conditioning, heated front seats, four power windows and other options.
  • But the "top" modifications can also boast: xenon headlights, keyless access to the salon, 18-inch "rollers", panoramic roof, all-round cameras, dual-zone "climate" and other "chips".
